Argentina

Sandwiched between the Andes Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, the Argentine Republic is the South America's second largest nation. Colonised by the Spanish, who've left their mark in the language, culture and, in some places, architecture of the country, and famous for it's brilliant soccer players, in particular, Diego Maradonna, Argentina is sophisticated and wild, elegant and passionate. This contradictory nature is captured perfectly in the tango, which is danced in ballrooms and halls all over the capital, Buenos Aires. Born in the brothels of Buenos Aires, the tango is a national obsession and it's precision, drama and sensuality make it an ideal metaphor for Argentina as a whole.

As well as lovely Buenos Aires, Argentina is popular with tourists and sightseers wishing to enjoy the unspoilt wilderness of Patagonia, with its windswept grasslands, numerous lakes, fantastic wild life and stunning glaciers. In recent years, Patagonia has seen a boom in ecotourism, the pristine conditions found in its rugged terrain attracting visitors from around the globe. Cruising Patagonia has also become fashionable with its glittering icebergs and iridescent glaciers a must see for many holiday makers wishing to get a taste of South America on an Antarctic cruise.
